THE WAVE: FC Barcelona – Bayern München

FOOTBALL – This was a very lively and open match, especially considering the size of the stakes. Bayern attempted to keep pace with the hosts in the possession battle, but soon found Barça’s opportunities piling up. Bayern managed a few chances for themselves, but in the final 15 minutes the floodgates burst and Lionel Messi scored twice and in stoppage time set up Neymar for Barca’s third.

BREAKING: Cristiano Ronaldo collects third career Ballon d’Or

FOOTBALL –  Cristiano Ronaldo picked up the FIFA Ballon d’Or for 2014, the year for which he was voted the best football player in the world.  Ronaldo had also won the award in 2008 and last year.
He is the fifth player to have won it on at least three occasions and joins Johan Cruijff, Michel Platini and Marco van Basten on three. Only Lionel Messi has won it more often (four times).

REVIEW: Messi finishes 2014 calendar year on 50 goals for Barça

FOOTBALL – By scoring a brace late in a 5-0 victory over Córdoba CF, Lionel Messi raised his total of official goals for FC Barcelona in the 2014 calendar year to 50. At club level, Messi has now cracked the half century in four of the last five calendar years. The only exception in that span was last seasson, when he finished with 39 goals for the blaugranas.
