REVIEW: Lille pick up 10th consecutive clean sheet

FOOTBALL – By defeating Valenciennes 1-0 on Saturday, Lille OSC have kept their 10th consecutive clean sheet in Ligue 1 and become the second side to achieve such a run in the French top flight. Girondins Bordeaux holds the record with 12 clean sheets in a row (Jan-Apr 1993).

> The last player to score a league goal against Lille was OGC Nice’s Darío Cvitanich on 15 September. Lille have not allowed a goal in 945 minutes of league football after that.

REVIEW: Gut wins three World Cup races before December

ALPINE SKIING – Switzerland’s Lara Gut won her third World Cup race of the season on Saturday, and second in two days, by triumphing in the Super G race in Beaver Creek, Colorado.  Gut became the first woman to win three World Cup races in a single season before the end of November. 

REVIEW: Ajax striker Hoesen can handle each level

FOOTBALL – Ajax striker Danny Hoesen netted for his team in their 2-1 triumph over FC Barcelona. It was his first Champions League goal this season. He had already scored in the Dutch top flight and in the Dutch second tier as he had also represented Ajax’ youth team. He is the first player to score at these three particular levels in the same season.

REVIEW: AC Milan field starting 11 that has no 1-11

FOOTBALL –  On Tuesday, 26 November, AC Milan became the third team in Champions League history to field a starting line-up not containing any numbers from 1 to 11, following Valencia CF (05 December 2006) and Arsenal (09 December 2009). Milan’s lowest starting number today was 14 (Valter Birsa) and their highest was 45 (Mario Balotelli).

REVIEW: Man City keep on scoring at Etihad

FOOTBALL – Manchester City defeated Tottenham Hotspur 6-0 in their Premier League home match. This was the biggest winning margin over Tottenham for Man City in all of their 129 matches.

  • Manchester City won 7-0 against Norwich in their previous Premier League home match.
  • The last time Man City scored 6+ goals in back-to-back league home matches was in the 2nd tier in 1963 (6-1 v Rotherham & 8-1 v Scunthorpe).
  • Man City have now scored 26 goals in their first 6 home matches and are first club in 78 years to reach this total in top flight. Sunderland won the league in 1935/36.
