REVIEW: Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo strike again

FOOTBALL – In tonight’s matches in La Liga both Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo were on top of their game. Lionel Messi scored his 400th career goal in FC Barcelona’s 6-0 victory over Granada CF. Cristiano Ronaldo scored his 187th La Liga goal in Real’s 2-0 win at Villareal CF to become outright third among Real Madrid’s all-time La Liga top scorers. Continue reading

ANALYSE THIS: Should Europe be happy at 5-3 up in Ryder Cup?

GOLF – After one day of action at the 2014 Ryder Cup, Europe are leading the visiting Team USA by 5-3. It is the first time since 2006 that Europe have been in the lead after Day 1. Coming from a losing session in the morning fourballs, a good guess is that Team Europe will look back on Day 1 happy, having reversed a 2.5-1.5 deficit into a 5.0-3.0 lead. But should they be?

ANALYSE THIS: Euro Club Index – No Premier League team in top-5

FOOTBALL – Italian champions Juventus have climbed to fifth place, their best position in the Euro Club Index since its inception, after wins against Malmö and AC Milan over the last week. However, the big news is that there is no Premier League club in the top-5 for the first time since the Euro Club Index began in 2007. During much of the first couple of years of the Euro Club Index’s existence, there were four clubs – Arsenal, Chelsea, Liverpool and Manchester United – in the top-5 but that number gradually declined from November 2009 onwards, the last time that a quartet of Premier League clubs occupied four of the top five places.

Frank Lampard sets new PL record

FOOTBALL – Chelsea icon Frank Lampard scored against his former team to hand Manchester City a 1-1 draw at the Etihad Stadium.
