IN THE NEWS: Mondragón can set WC age record
FOOTBALL – Goalkeeper Farid Mondragón is the only player in Colombia’s 2014 World Cup squad. He played in the 1998 World Cup and is one of only two players that could play at both the 1998 and 2014 World Cups. The other is Cameroon’s Samuel Eto’o. Mondragón was also part of Colombia’s 1994 World Cup party, but he did not play at all in that tournament.
IN THE NEWS: Argentina send their oldest ever WC squad
FOOTBALL – Argentina’s 23-man squad for the 2014 World Cup in Brazil will be on average 28 years and 336 days old on the day the tournament kicks off (12 June). It is Argentina’s oldest ever World Cup squad, beating 28-303 from 2002. Should this squad win the World Cup it will be the oldest to ever lift the trophy. The record is now 28-262 by Italy in 2006.
IN THE NEWS – Klose will have a shot at all-time World Cup records
FOOTBALL – Miroslav Klose is one of the veteran players included in Germany’s World Cup party. Klose needs one more goal to equal the al-time record for WC goals by Brazil’s Ronaldo (15). Should Germany reach the semifinals and Klose plays in all of their matches, Klose will raise his total of WC match appearances to 26, which would beat the all-time record of 25 by countryman Lothar Matthäus.
