REVIEW: Bayern first to claim title in March
FOOTBALL – Bayern München defeated Hertha BSC 3-1 to claim their 23rd Bundesliga title. No other team has more than five. Bayern became the first ever team to win the Bundesliga title in March and became the first side to claim the title with seven matches to spare in leagues in England, France, Germany, Netherlands, Spain and Italy.
REVIEW: Messi 1st to score hat-trick in Bernabéu for Barça
FOOTBALL – FC Barcelona defeated Real Madrid 4-3 in Madrid in La Liga on Sunday. Lionel Messi scored three goals and became the first ever Barça player to score a Clásico hat-trick at Bernabéu.Two other Barcelona players scored a hat-trick in an away match in a Clásico, but these matches were played before Estadio Bernabéu existed. REVIEW: Goal fest this Premier League round not a record
FOOTBALL – There were a total of 42 goals this Premier League match round, the second most ever in a 20 team Premier League season, one short of the record of 43, set in match round 26 of the 2010/11 season, 5-6 February 2011. As one of the goals in that 2011 match round was an own goal, and none of the goals yesterday/today were, this means this match round has equalled the record for most intentional Premier League goals.
REVIEW Kristoff becomes 1st Norwegian to win Milano-Sanremo
CYCLING – Alexander Kristoff won the 105th Milano – Sanremo on Sunday. He became the first Norwegian to win this race. This was also the first time a Norwegian won a Monument race (Milano – Sanremo, Ronde van Vlaanderen, Paris – Roubaix, Liège – Bastogne – Liège and Il Lombardia). The last seven editions of this race have now seven different winners.
REVIEW: Chelsea hand Wenger’s biggest defeat in 1000th match
FOOTBALL – Chelsea defeated Arsenal 6-0 in the Premier League today. This was Arsène Wenger’s 1000th match as manager of Arsenal. This result equalled Arsenal’s biggest defeat under Wenger. They lost 8-2 at Manchester United in August 2011.

Cycling – On Sunday, 23 March, the 105th Milano – Sanremo will be held, the first one-day WorldTour race of the year. RECORD: FC Barcelona face eighth Spanish club in Europe
FOOTBALL – By drawing Atlético Madrid in the quarterfinals of the Champions League, FC Barcelona will face a record extending eighth different opponent from their own country in a European tie. Previously, Barça have been involved in European matches against Real Madrid, Valencia CF, RCD Espanyol, Real Zaragoza, Athletic Club, Sevilla FC and Celta de Vigo.
REVIEW: Juve beat Italian opposition for first time in eight matches
FOOTBALL – Juventus defeated Fiorentina 1-0 in Florence to advance to the quarterfinals of the Europa League on Thursday. Juventus had previously failed to beat an Italian team in Europe in seven successive matches. Continue reading
